Suburbanites get free rides after programmers invade San Francisco's Muni Metro transport framework

Travelers on San Francisco's Municipal Railway (Muni) could go for nothing over Thanksgiving end of the week, after the city's metro framework was focused by programmers.

More than 2,000 PCs over the vehicle system were tainted with malware which scrambled their information and kept them from working regularly.

The PCs were left showing a dark screen with a payment note composed crosswise over it expressing: "You Hacked, ALL Data Encrypted. Contact For Key (cryptom27@yandex.com)ID:681, Enter."

The programmers were apparently requesting 100 bitcoin (£58,514) to evacuate the malware - a whole that the Municipal Transportation Agency (MTA) was unwilling to pay.

As the ticketing machines were not able administer tickets, the MTA was compelled to open the toll entryways and offer free rides to occupants while it attempted to determine the circumstance.

"We don't thoughtfulness regarding meeting and engender news! our product working totally naturally and we don't have focused on assault to anyplace!" the programmers said in an announcement to the Verge on Sunday.
